Valtteri Bottas wants to change the design of his helmet
One year after Lewis Hamilton, it's Valtteri Bottas' turn to ask his fans to design the helmet he will use during the next season.
While Lewis Hamilton has entered a period of communication blackout on social media, the various teams have returned after the holiday break.
Mercedes has thus launched a competition aiming to design the next helmet used by Valtteri Bottas in 2018. This is reminiscent of the same competition launched last year by Lewis Hamilton for his own helmet. However, the terms of the competition are quite different. At the time, Lewis Hamilton used his Instagram account to promote the campaign.
On the other hand, this year, the operation is primarily led by Mercedes, with the driver playing a minor role. This allows the team to expand its fan base as it is necessary to have a fan account on the team’s website to access the bare version of the helmet.
This already includes the reserved spots for the various planned sponsors, namely Mercedes, Monster Energy, Petronas, Epson, Wihuri, and Tibco, as well as the BV77 driver logo. While there are no guidelines regarding the colors to use, the team limits itself to showcasing recommended colors favored by the driver (mainly blue to pay homage to his national flag) or by the team (the green of Petronas as well as the black and white of Mercedes).
