Fernando Alonso becomes a sponsor of McLaren

Over the lean years spent with the McLaren-Honda partnership, the team did everything possible to satisfy its star driver, Fernando Alonso. This led them to allow him to miss the Monaco Grand Prix to participate in the Indianapolis 500.

In 2018, the team’s competitiveness level should improve with the arrival of the Renault engine, which has proven its performance with Red Bull. Therefore, there will no longer be an American stage for the Spanish driver. However, it is now almost certain that he will participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Toyota.

But McLaren fully intends to keep him because his steering skills remain among the best on the grid. In an unprecedented move, a driver will become a sponsor of his own team as McLaren has officially announced that the clothing brand launched last April by the Asturian driver, Kimoa, will become an official partner of the team in 2018.

The brand will therefore benefit from excellent visibility, being present on the car, the suits, and helmets of both drivers. Fernando Alonso will also be able to display it on his official cap. He explains what this new experience brings him: As a double world champion racing in Formula 1 for 16 years, it can be difficult to find new challenges in life. Founding Kimoa offered me a fresh start, and I’ve truly enjoyed the adrenaline and sensation of discovering something new for the very first time. Kimoa is an exciting project I launched with friends. We’ve been working to develop the brand, and it truly represents our mindset and style.

Fernando Alonso’s activities are therefore becoming increasingly diversified as he has already launched his own museum, which also includes a track and a karting school. He has also just announced that he is teaming up with one of the team’s sponsors, Logitech, to launch his own esports team, FA Racing G2 Logitech G. One of his drivers, Cem Bolukbasi, will thus participate in the final of the esports championship launched this season by F1.
