Daniil Kvyat blames Sergio Perez for his retirement

Starting ninth on the grid, still ninth with a few laps to go, Daniil Kvyat hoped to score points for the second time in a row. But it was not to be due to a retirement just seven laps from the end.

Afterward, the Russian was still fuming at Sergio Pérez, who clipped him at the entrance of the Rascasse: “I was doing my job, just getting to the end of the race. After everything that happened this weekend, I would have been very happy to finish ninth. Obviously, I knew he had fresher tires than mine.” The Mexican had already gone on the offensive as soon as the safety car pulled away, launching an attack on Stoffel Vandoorne. The Belgian was caught off guard by his cold tires and went straight on at Sainte-Dévote.

But for Daniil Kvyat, it was already a sign that the Sahara Force India driver was ready to do anything to climb back up the hierarchy: « I saw what he did to Vandoorne. So I thought, “ok, this guy is really desperate.” I was covering my line, to be honest, but he tried from very far away. I didn’t even see him coming! I just felt a crash and my race was over. »

The former Red Bull driver did not mince his words towards his rival: « He just tried to lean on me as if it were on PlayStation. It doesn’t work that way! I am really very, very disappointed. I think it’s a completely desperate maneuver. »

He didn’t stop there, recalling that the Mexican was no longer a rookie who could be forgiven for referencing video games, as Lance Stroll did at the beginning of the weekend: « It was desperate, I don’t understand. A guy with so much experience, who was fighting for podiums, makes such desperate, stupid maneuvers. »
