Tire choices by driver for Monaco

For the first time this season, teams and drivers themselves have complete freedom to choose the mix of tire compounds they want to have available for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Previously, it was Pirelli that imposed this choice on the teams for reasons of reliability and learning, to give drivers time to acclimate and understand the new compounds made available to them.

When looking at the table provided by the Italian manufacturer, the least that can be said is that the Ultra Soft tires with purple bands were the most popular. For the non-permanent and not too demanding Monaco track in terms of degradation, the drivers need maximum grip.

It should be noted, however, that the occasional returnee at McLaren, Jenson Button, is the only driver to have chosen two sets of Soft tyres, and that Mercedes, compared to its main rival Ferrari, has decided to bring an additional set of Super Softs at the expense of the Ultra Softs.
