An unexpected point for Romain Grosjean and Haas in Barcelona
Romain Grosjean, who started 14th, picked up the point for 10th place after his team-mate Kevin Magnussen, who had long been in 9th place, was forced to pit in the closing laps following a puncture.
Romain Grosjean did not expect as much at the end of the qualifying sessions. Not very optimistic about his chances of scoring points in the race, the Frenchman ultimately took advantage of the series of retirements at the front of the Grand Prix to secure a very important point for his team.
Nevertheless, he remains disappointed to have gained this position following the puncture of his teammate, Kevin Magnussen, who was then 9th: « Of course, it’s good for the team to score a point, but it’s really unfortunate for Kevin who lost 9th place because of a puncture. My start was pretty good and in the first and second corners there were quite a few cars sideways. I went through the astroturf to avoid them. If that hadn’t been the case, I would have been alongside Nico [Hülkenberg] or even ahead of him, and my race would have been different. »
The pace of the Haas wasn’t bad on Soft tires but, throughout the weekend, Grosjean didn’t really manage to get his Medium tires to work for the remainder of the race: « The pace was there on Softs but I was always in traffic. As for the Mediums, I really struggled to make them work. I was happier with the car today [Sunday] than yesterday [Saturday], but we still have a lot of work to do, explained the Frenchman.
For a long time in the points and ahead of his teammate, Kevin Magnussen was probably the unluckiest driver at the end of this race. Then in 9th position, he was forced to pit due to a puncture after contact with Daniil Kvyat’s Toro Rosso, with whom he was battling: « It’s frustrating. We could have scored points with both cars, so it’s really disappointing. I had contact with Kvyat, it could have been okay, but it caused a puncture. It would have been a good result, and I’m disappointed not to have achieved it. » explains the Danish driver, disheartened.
