Big points for Sahara Force India in Spain

Here is a statistic we didn’t expect: Sahara Force India is now the only team to have placed both its drivers in the points since the start of the season. Furthermore, it is in a position to extend its consecutive points-scoring streak to 17 races.

Under these conditions, it is not surprising that the team is solidly in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, which can only please Robert Fernley, the team director: A fantastic result for everyone at Sahara Force India. The 22 points scored strengthen our grip on fourth place in the championship, and we continue our streak of scoring points in every race. We are now the only team to have done so, and it rewards all the hard work of the race team and at the factory.

The team was able to score big points by fully capitalizing on three of the top six cars. While Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull was out of reach, the two Pink Panthers were never threatened by their pursuers. Sergio Perez was thus pleased to have made it through the first corner unscathed: « I didn’t get the best start but stayed out of trouble. I was able to calmly complete the first lap. I then focused on managing my speed and controlling the race to bring the car home. »

The Mexican thus outpaced his teammate, Esteban Ocon. By finishing fifth, the Frenchman achieved the best result of his young F1 career, which could only delight him: « I’m really happy today. Fifth place is a great result for me. With Checo’s fourth place, it’s a fantastic day for the team. It’s a great end to a weekend where we worked very hard. It’s a wonderful reward for everyone in the team. »

Appetite grows with eating, the Silverstone team can even consider itself closer to Red Bull’s third place (19 points) than to Toro Rosso’s fifth place (32 points).
