Mika Häkkinen returns to McLaren

If Mika Häkkinen retired 16 years ago, he remains one of the most popular champions. In fact, he had only distanced himself slightly from the paddocks as he negotiated a role as an ambassador for Mercedes, his engine supplier during his two world championship titles.

The Finn has thus appeared in numerous advertisements for the German manufacturer, while making some public appearances. He also leveraged his F1 champion status by partnering with the whisky brand Johnnie Walker to promote its campaign against drunk driving.

But now, he will be the ambassador for another car manufacturer as he joins the ranks of McLaren in this role. He will therefore be working alongside Zak Brown, the new CEO of the team: « Returning to McLaren was an easy decision for me: I never really lost contact and I still know many of the men and women who were there during the eight and a half seasons I spent there. I look forward to working with Zak, who bought one of the McLarens that won in 2001. We talked to see how to work together. I can see that he is putting the necessary elements in place to help McLaren return to the forefront. »

It can also be noted that the new ambassador is following the communication strategy towards social media, which the new master of Woking wants to promote. Indeed, it’s only today that his Facebook and Twitter accounts have been activated. The first tweet features a photo of his McLaren P1. Unsurprisingly…
