Circuit Gilles Villeneuve gets a covered grandstand
Following the announcement of his contract extension, the Gilles Villeneuve circuit announced that it would be building its first covered grandstand, in the Senna corner.
If significant work is planned in the Montreal paddock after the 2018 edition, the circuit does not miss the opportunity to improve its offerings for the general public.
Thus, it was announced today that, for the first time in its history dating back to 1978, the 2017 Canadian Grand Prix would be held with a covered grandstand, as officially stated by François Dumontier, the President of Octane, the promoter of the event: “We are proud and happy to offer fans this great first, a superb and comfortable covered grandstand, a special gift to grandly celebrate our 50-year history. At the same time, we are responding to a request that a large number of spectators have been making for some time.”
This new grandstand will obviously be placed in a strategic location since it will be on the right side of the track, just before the famous Senna S, which was the scene of a new clash between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in 2016.
In addition to offering protection in case of rain and an unbeatable view from one of the best spots on the circuit, this grandstand will also include comfortable seats for the comfort of its spectators. However, such a combination won’t come cheap as it will cost 850 Canadian dollars, or 600 euros, for a three-day pass.
As a reference, grandstand 12, located on the other side of the same turn, will cost 395 Canadian dollars, or 278 euros. In F1, even more than elsewhere, comfort comes at a high price.
