Esteban Gutierrez changes agent to stay in F1
Esteban Gutierrez is still without a driver's seat for next season, and has decided to review his entourage. He has appointed Adrian Fernandez as manager, while Didier Coton will be stepping back.
For the second time in three years, Esteban Gutierrez finishes a F1 season without knowing what his future holds. Two years ago, he found refuge as a test driver with Ferrari, before returning as a main driver with Haas.
But the American team preferred to bring in Kevin Magnussen for next season since the Mexican driver was unable to score a single point throughout the season. With only three seats remaining available for 2017, the young driver’s options are now limited and time is running out.
That is why Esteban Gutierrez decided to change his entourage, starting with his manager. Until now, this position was held by Didier Coton, who notably managed the careers of Mika Hakkinen, Lewis Hamilton, and Valtteri Bottas, but he will now take a step back, as the driver himself revealed to Autosport: Didier has been my manager for several years and he will remain as an advisor. We are good friends, we know each other very well and I respect him a lot. He is a good person, very straightforward, just like me. So he will remain in the team, very close to us. But now the person in charge is Adrian Fernandez. He is my manager.
He has therefore decided to enlist the services of the former CART driver but also wants to have more impact on the management of his own career. Indeed, he feels that he finds himself in this situation because his entourage did not act enough to secure his future: « I don’t blame anyone, but I think the situation could have been better managed. I was too focused on driving while the rest was not yet resolved. By the time I looked up, things were not in place. I cannot allow myself to end up in this position again. »
The significant support he has received since the beginning of his career should strongly assist him in his discussions with the two teams that still have available seats, namely Manor and Sauber.
