Charles Leclerc will not be a Haas regular in 2017
Still fighting for the GP3 title, Charles Leclerc won't be taking the plunge into F1 next season. He will first concentrate on a GP2 campaign before setting his sights on the ultimate category.
In Brazil, Charles Leclerc will participate in his fourth Friday morning free practice session with Haas, driving Esteban Gutierrez’s car.
While the Mexican’s place is still not guaranteed for next year, some already saw the young Monegasque taking his place, thus skipping GP2. He would have followed in the footsteps of Valtteri Bottas or Daniil Kvyat.
However, Günther Steiner, the team’s sporting director, made it known that Charles Leclerc would not be in F1 next season: « He is currently in GP3 and can win the title in Abu Dhabi. He has a GP2 season coming up and we will see what he can do. »
This year will be essential for Nicolas Todt’s protégé to make his mark: « If he wins GP2 or finishes in the Top 3 in his first GP2 season, his future should be very bright. »
Here is one of the contenders for the few remaining seats crossed off the list, even though he might continue his program of free practice sessions to gain experience behind the wheel of an F1.
