Brembo in trouble at Haas

This is not the first time that one of the two Haas drivers has found themselves in trouble because of their brakes. But this time, the team seems to have reached the end of their patience with their supplier. Günther Steiner, the team’s director, did not mince his words: « It’s unfortunate for Esteban. He was doing a very good job when he experienced a new brake disc failure. We will investigate what happened and see how we can move forward and resolve these issues. They are unacceptable. »

Comments we’ve already heard from another team but always in relation to Brembo. During the 2014 German Grand Prix qualifying, Lewis Hamilton made a mistake due to a failure of one of his brake discs, which triggered Niki Lauda’s anger. Mercedes then decided to use 100% of the equipment supplied by Carbon Industrie.

Proof of embarrassment for Brembo, the Italian company released a press statement following the race: « Regarding what happened to Esteban Gutierrez of Haas F1 Team during the United States Grand Prix, Brembo regrets the driver’s withdrawal at the end of the 17th lap caused by a possible issue related to the braking system. »

A few hours later, a new version of the same communiqué was published by Brembo in which they removed the word “possible” to take full responsibility for this failure.

However, given the very short time frame between the United States and Mexico, a change of suppliers is not expected to occur before the Brazilian Grand Prix.
