Nico Hülkenberg confident he can do as well as Sergio Perez
While Sergio Perez is racking up podium after podium, Nico Hülkenberg has yet to claim his first F1 podium. But he's working with his team to get there.
When his teammate shines, it is often difficult to put on a good show. However, Nico Hülkenberg is not intimidated by Sergio Perez’s current success.
Thus, he is convinced that his time will come and that he could even have been on the podium instead of his teammate during the Monaco race: « For me, Monaco is the race that leaves me with the most regrets because we made a strategic error when I could have aimed for the podium. »
He is currently working on improving collaboration with his team members to optimize the potential of a car that has an interesting performance level. He remains confident for the rest of the season as the team is currently on an upward trajectory while developments should now be limited: « Other teams will also have to reduce their investments in 2016 to focus on 2017. We should therefore maintain our current level, especially now that we have a good understanding of our package. »
As the weekend in Austria approaches, he is very confident, especially when compared to last season: “Last year, with the car in specification A, I was 5th on the grid and 6th in the race. So I am very confident that we can achieve a good result here.”
Nevertheless, he knows that the closest competitors to Sahara Force India at the moment, the Williams, should also be comfortable on an engine circuit: « The Williams should be strong here. Baku was very specific. It’s as if the circuit was designed for our car. Here it should be tighter. »
