Daniel Ricciardo linked to Red Bull until 2018

The summer period is traditionally called the silly season in F1, as this is when all the transfer rumors for the following season arise.

One of the main attractions of this market is related to Kimi Räikkönen’s position, who is still without a contract for the next season. It didn’t take much more for some to send half of the current grid there.

Daniel Ricciardo responded to the question of whether he was tied to Red Bull until the end of 2018 with a simple: “Yeah, yeah.” The reason he didn’t want to elaborate further is that he doesn’t want to fuel the rumor mill: “Everything I say is… One word becomes 10 words, then 30, then 50. So I won’t say more.”

But when pressed for more information, the Australian did indicate that the decision was mutual and that he believed it was his best opportunity to fight against Mercedes: « It goes both ways, it’s clear. We want to win. Looking at what is coming next year and spending time with the team, I think it’s the best place to try to challenge Mercedes. »

As Max Verstappen has just been promoted to Red Bull and Carlos Sainz has been confirmed at Toro Rosso, there is only one spot left available for the two teams. It should be contested between Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly. However, for this to happen, the Frenchman must necessarily win the title.
