The road to the cross continues for Renault

Jolyon Palmer has not been showcased in the best light since the start of the weekend as he made errors in two of the three practice sessions on the circuit of the Principality. During the Saturday morning session, he spun and hit the barrier with his rear wing.

During qualifying, he only managed to keep the two Manors behind him but had to concede to Marcus Ericsson’s Sauber. In the end, he settled for 18th place on the grid, thanks to the issues faced by Max Verstappen and Felipe Nasr: « It was a tough session, but we’re ultimately in our usual places. It’s fantastic to drive here and I really wanted to reach Q2, but we just didn’t have the pace. »

His teammate, Kevin Magnussen, at least had the satisfaction of making it into Q2 once again, but ultimately had to settle for 16th place, finishing almost half a second behind Romain Grosjean: « It’s not great to be sixteenth. This is roughly where we’ve been since the start of the year, but we hoped to do better here. »

The two drivers are therefore betting on rain and the inevitable accidents that spice up races in Monaco to try to climb up the hierarchy.
