Fernando Alonso will be allowed to take part in the Chinese Grand Prix subject to certain conditions;

The decision was long in coming and it is not 100% what Fernando Alonso wanted. Indeed, the Spanish driver got the most important thing, namely the authorization to at least participate in the first practice session.

The FIA has thus announced that it does not oppose the driver’s return to his single-seater: « The stewards followed the opinion of the FIA medical delegate, who after consulting the Chinese Grand Prix’s chief medical officer and the driver’s doctors, considered the driver fit to participate in the event with reservations. »

But the FIA’s green light is only provisional since the doctors want to see the impact that a return to a Formula 1 cockpit can have. Fernando Alonso is therefore forced to undergo further medical examinations after his Friday morning practice session to see if the strains endured have not had too much impact on his organs: « The FIA medical delegate and the chief medical officer order him to undergo a new examination immediately after FP1 to establish his eligibility to participate in the rest of the event. »

For Fernando Alonso, it was important to show that he was ready to return as soon as possible. Especially after his replacement, Stoffel Vandoorne, had a flawless weekend and even managed to score the team’s first point of the season. It’s never good to stay away longer than strictly necessary…
