Red Bull confident for the rest of the Bahrain weekend
Good first day of work for Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo on the Sakhir circuit, even though the Australian could not complete his entire scheduled program for the night session.
Daniil Kvyat comes off a disastrous weekend in Australia as he was the first to be caught out by the new qualifying system and started 18th on the grid. However, he wasn’t even able to start the race due to a technical issue with his car. He is therefore hoping to make up for lost time: « All things considered, it was a good Friday, which was essential after a disastrous weekend in Melbourne. We aimed for a good number of laps, which we achieved, and we have a lot of data to analyze tonight. »
If he managed to complete 64 laps of the Sakhir circuit, he could also be satisfied with his pace as he finished 5th and 7th and even thinks he can do better in qualifying.
While Daniel Ricciardo also shares this optimism about the race pace, he is nevertheless somewhat frustrated for having compromised his evening program due to a driving error: « Dany must be happier with his Friday than I am. This morning wasn’t too bad, but on the very first lap this afternoon, I locked the front in the first corner, which destroyed that set of tires. So we couldn’t use that set for the long run, which compromised our afternoon program. »
Furthermore, he was disrupted by session interruptions caused by Sebastian Vettel and Romain Grosjean: « With the super softs and low fuel, we still need to find a bit more balance. With a full tank, we were interrupted by the virtual safety cars. »
The Australian also believes that the race pace should be more competitive than during a single lap in qualifying.
