Three new sponsors for Manor
For the start of the season, Manor was able to announce the arrival of three new partners: Rebellion and Daffy's will be sponsors, while Rescale will primarily be a technical partner.
During the winter testing, Manor had an entirely new livery but with very few sponsors. Only the logos of Shazam, announced at the end of last season, and Pertamina, thanks to the arrival of Rio Haryanto, were visible.
But three more companies are making their arrival starting this weekend in Australia. The first of them is the watch brand Rebellion. Although it is the first time the Swiss brand is investing in F1, they have extensive experience in motorsports as they have their own team at the highest level of the WEC, as explained by Abdulla Boulsien, the director of Manor: « Rebellion is no stranger to motorsports: they know the industry and are passionate about motorsports. We like the fact that Rebellion respects the past but chooses to do things their own way. They are not afraid to do things differently. »
To establish its visibility in Formula 1, Rebellion chose the same tactic that IWC uses with Mercedes: a replica of one of its models is reproduced on the gloves worn by Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto, providing excellent visibility during on-board camera shots. Visibility on the single-seater itself is much lower as it’s limited to the mirrors.
On the other hand, another sponsor will enjoy great visibility on the car as the Daffy’s gin brand logo will now be present on the aerodynamic appendages on the side of the cars. This was created by the American artist with the predestined name of McGinnis, who is also working on a poster combining the two new partners. Like Rebellion, Daffy’s is also working on a special edition of its product in Manor’s colors.
The latest addition to the small team is Rescale. The San Francisco company will primarily bring its cloud system to Manor’s service, which will allow the team to have much greater computing resources, as explained by Joris Poort, the company’s CEO: « Using the Rescale platform requires no trackside computer equipment. With just a laptop and an internet connection, Manor Racing has a global computer platform at their fingertips to gain a competitive advantage in simulation. »
The financial advantage is very significant for a small team like Manor, which doesn’t have the computing infrastructure that the leading teams in the discipline benefit from: “By using Rescale’s cloud platform during races, the engineer receives the equivalent of half a truckload of computers, instantly deployed on their laptop. Setting up a high-performance physical infrastructure would have cost millions of dollars in capital investment.”
If the agreement is primarily technical, Rescale is also using it to increase its public visibility by securing a spot on the air intake of Manor’s single-seaters.
