Santino Ferrucci becomes a development driver for Haas
Haas takes on a slightly more American accent by making Santino Ferrucci its protégé. The Connecticut native will be a development driver for the new Formula 1 team.
When announcing his entry into F1, Gene Haas stated that it was not important for him to have an American driver on the grid. He even believed that there was not yet an American driver capable of racing in F1, effectively ruling out a driver like Alexander Rossi.
It therefore seems that the businessman has now decided to train a driver from across the Atlantic himself to prepare him to step up to F1. This is the young Santino Ferrucci, who will be in GP3 this season.
The American team will therefore accompany him throughout the upcoming season, which he will spend with the French team Dams, as explained by Günther Steiner, Haas’ director: « Santino Ferrucci has done a very good job in all categories he has participated in, and his maturity outside the car is impressive. We see Santino as a young American driver with great potential. The opportunity to race with Dams is an excellent chance for him to complete his development while positioning Haas F1 Team for future successes. »
Last year, he had a busy season, finishing third in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand, before taking part in the full European Formula 3 season, which he finished in 11th place overall. There, he crossed paths with Charles Leclerc, who would be one of the main contenders for the GP3 title.
