Marco Sorensen tackles Carmen Jorda
Lotus development driver last year, Marco Sorensen is no longer part of the Renault team. However, he does not hesitate to criticize Carmen Jorda, who remains with the Enstone team.
If Kevin Magnussen ultimately replaced Pastor Maldonado, another Dane was also in the running, Marco Sorensen. He was the protégé of Lotus since the arrival of the Danish bank Saxo Bank as a sponsor.
Nevertheless, while Marco Sorensen was among the first to congratulate his compatriot, he remains disgusted by the preferential treatment his former teammate, Carmen Jorda, received by being retained by Renault. To fuel his resentment, he relies on their lap times in the simulator, as he explains to Ekstra Bladet: « She was twelve seconds slower than me in the simulator. But despite everything, she was the one who received all the rewards. »
Thus, the young Spaniard made many more trips to the races, where FOM cameras were eager to capture her, than her teammate. However, he was doing significant behind-the-scenes work in the simulator: “I have done at least 60 days in the simulator over the past two years. That’s equivalent to what Kevin Magnussen did at McLaren.”
In such conditions, he therefore preferred to focus on his commitment to endurance racing, particularly with the 24 Hours of Le Mans in sight: « I felt so mistreated that it eventually became too much for me. So I said stop. »
If he has generous sponsors, he was not able to gather the necessary budget required by the different teams: “I couldn’t gather the six million euros I was told was the minimum needed when you need to buy a Formula 1 seat.”
