Red Bull will have a Renault engine rebranded as Tag Heuer

Christian Horner announced during the Abu Dhabi weekend that he had finalized his agreement for the next season from an engine standpoint, after long months of uncertainty and impromptu statements.

The teasing began yesterday when the team posted an image on Twitter of one of its cars with an empty engine but with Swiss watchmakers leaning over it, with the name Tag Heuer clearly displayed.

The official announcement did not take long. Jean-Claude Biver, the CEO of the Swiss brand, stated: “Formula One is clearly rooted in Tag Heuer’s DNA and Red Bull Racing is a young and dynamic team that perfectly matches our marketing strategy. This will give Tag Heuer great visibility and will allow us to make our partnership exciting, different, and innovative.”

As for Christian Horner, he does not fail to emphasize that he welcomes with great satisfaction Renault’s partnership with Ilmor. He even takes the opportunity to praise his engine manufacturer, after a long series of sharp remarks since the beginning of the season: “We are delighted to see that Renault has confirmed its long-term commitment to F1 and we would like to thank them for their contribution to the team since 2007. Their technical partnership with Ilmor gives us great confidence and we look forward to the 2016 season.”

But as nature quickly takes its course, the team director also takes the opportunity to strike a blow at one of his rivals, McLaren, which has thus lost a 30-year partner: « Tag Heuer has been an icon in the world of Formula One for many years. We are delighted that they have chosen to continue their association with the sport by partnering with us. »

The new agreement also means that the title sponsorship deal with Infiniti comes to an end since it was previously just a way to increase the visibility of the Renault-Nissan Alliance brands while allowing Red Bull to get a discount on the price of its engine. Therefore, the official name of the next Milton Keynes single-seater will now be Red Bull Racing-TAG Heuer RB12.
