Lotus offers its second seat to Jolyon Palmer for 2016
After a season of performing Friday morning sessions, Jolyon Palmer has managed to secure a full-time race seat for 2016, still with Lotus.
Patience is sometimes rewarded. Thus, when he arrived at Lotus as the third driver at the beginning of the season, Jolyon Palmer had made it known that he was aiming for a full-time seat for the following season.
If it caused frustration for Romain Grosjean, who had to give up his car on numerous occasions on Friday morning, the Briton managed to show his best side to the Lotus leaders. They have therefore decided to give him their second seat, alongside Pastor Maldonado.
Gérard Lopez, still the owner of the team, did not fail to mention that the 2014 GP2 champion also has the clear advantage of making a significant financial contribution to the team: “Besides the fact that he has a great future ahead of him behind the wheel, Jolyon is a smart asset that can be highly valued by the team.”
The promotion granted to Jolyon Palmer thus undermines the hopes of Kevin Magnussen, who is leaving McLaren, to find a full-time seat for the next season. It also undermines the claims of some media outlets that the Danish bank Saxo Bank, already a sponsor of Lotus, had supported their compatriot to secure a place at Enstone…
