Red Bull returns to the forefront in Singapore
Red Bull could be satisfied with its qualifying in Singapore: Daniel Ricciardo managed to climb to second place while Daniil Kvyat achieved the best qualifying of his career by finishing 4th.
To find a Red Bull on the front row, you have to go back to Hungary 2014, an eternity for a team accustomed to success. It was therefore a great satisfaction for Daniel Ricciardo to be able to regain this honor, which remains his best performance in the exercise: « It feels really good to be back on the front row. It’s been a long time, and it’s a coincidence that I’m here with Sebastian, but it should be a great race. The qualifying was exciting, and not seeing Mercedes at the top was a surprise. We will definitely try to capitalize on it. It would be great to be back in the press conference tomorrow! »
For the Australian, there can only be one objective: victory. However, he is aware that the Singapore circuit does not easily lend itself to overtaking: “We will aim for victory since that’s where the points and champagne are. Seb was untouchable today. So we are the second best today, and we will try to gain a place tomorrow. It’s always a challenge here, and you have to trust in the car because it’s hot, and it’s very tough for a driver. That’s what makes it fun.”
Daniil Kvyat was also delighted to finish 4th, his best career result. He also sets his sights on the Ferraris: « The red cars look strong but we will fight with them during the race. It’s a long race and we will have to be patient. The chassis behaved very well and the team did a great job on the car. »
As if to underscore Carlos Ghosn’s remarks at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Christian Horner, the team director, highlighted the performance that allowed them to outpace all the Mercedes engines on the grid by stating that this performance rewards his team’s work, without mentioning his future ex-engine supplier: « *It should be noted that we are ahead of both Mercedes, which is due to a great team performance. Hopefully, we can turn these grid positions into points tomorrow.* »
