Shell extends by five years with Ferrari
It's a long-term relationship that will last at least five more years: thus Shell has decided to extend its technical partnership with Ferrari.
To announce the extension of their partnership, the two parties chose the setting of the most important Grand Prix of the year for the Scuderia, namely its home race in Monza.
The main executives of the oil company and the Prancing Horse were therefore present while an SF15-T was alongside an antique 166 F2 on the old banked curve of the Italian circuit.
The announcement is indeed important for both parties. As Kai-Uwe Witterstein explained to us in an exclusive meeting at Spa-Francorchamps, F1 is Shell’s biggest sports investment. To achieve such visibility on the Maranello cars, it is estimated that Shell pays 36 million dollars per season, making it one of the biggest sponsors in the sport.
Istvan Kapitany, the Executive Vice President in charge of Retail at Shell, clearly linked this partnership to the Anglo-Dutch company’s business activities: « Shell has helped Scuderia Ferrari to be more successful than any other team in the history of this sport. We are very proud of this. Formula 1 is a world-class laboratory where we can develop fuels and oils that give Scuderia Ferrari a competitive advantage. These advancements will also appear in drivers’ vehicles all over the world. »
As part of this new partnership, it is also planned that Shell will now also bring its technical expertise to Ferrari as part of its commitment to the World Endurance Championship, the WEC.
