Pirelli: “No structural problem” on Nico Rosberg’s tire
After Nico Rosberg's tire exploded during the second practice session, Pirelli concluded that the structure of their tires was not to blame. It was deemed to be a problem related to an external object.
Once again, Pirelli was at the center of discussions this Friday evening, following the impressive tire explosion of Nico Rosberg at the end of the practice session. This forced the Italian manufacturer to conduct an investigation into the reasons for the explosion and thus ensure it would not happen again in the future.
This investigation concluded that there was no sign of any problem related to the structural integrity of the tire. The same conclusion was reached after studying the tires of other teams. It would therefore be an external object that cut the tire, which eventually exploded.
Paul Hembery, Pirelli’s motorsport director, stated: « We conducted a thorough investigation into what precisely happened to Nico’s tire. This investigation now excludes any structural issue. Based on this information and the available data, we conclude that the problem is related to an external source of damage. »
