No other new team selected to join F1 in 2016 or 2017

Despite the extension of the bidding period concerning the introduction of new teams into the F1 World Championship starting in 2016, the FIA concluded that the two applications received did not meet its criteria. Therefore, there will be no more than eleven teams during these two seasons.

The FIA was very cautious when it issued its new call for tenders to ensure that the applications received were serious. In particular, it reserved the right not to select any if it deemed that there were no sufficiently solid proposals.

This is indeed what happened since a spokesperson for the Concorde Place institution confirmed to our colleagues at Autosport that no candidate had been selected: We can confirm that the FIA received two team applications for the missing F1 spots. We then analyzed them through our complete process. Unfortunately, none met the FIA’s criteria for new teams, even though they had ample time to do so. We therefore consider this bidding process to be closed.

Without revealing the names of the unsuccessful candidates, it seems that ART Grand Prix was not a candidate, as we suspected at the beginning of the process. Indeed, while McLaren must already resolve its own reliability and performance issues with its Honda engine, it seemed unlikely that the British team would decide to support a B team, as could have been the case with the French team.

Haas, que nous avions rencontré lors du week-end de Silverstone, sera donc la seule équipe à faire ses débuts la saison prochaine. Reste maintenant à savoir si toutes les équipes actuelles seront en mesure de rester sur la grille dans le futur.
