2017: F1 must quickly finalize the new regulations
Formula 1 must quickly finalize the new regulations planned for 2017. This is, in any case, what is recommended so that the teams can have time to prepare for it.
The strategic group met last May. Following this meeting, the FIA announced that many rules would be changed and revised, particularly to enhance the spectacle starting in 2017 to satisfy both F1 fans and the teams and drivers. It was announced there would be faster cars, less driver assistance, a return of in-race refueling, but the latter proposal has already been removed from the list of proposals…
In any case, the teams are still waiting for news and especially details regarding this new regulation, which at best, should be implemented by March of next year. Some teams are indeed anxious about the direction these new rules will take. Without more information, all speculations are possible. Teams like Force India are very concerned because these new rules will require significant financial resources that they don’t necessarily have, unlike the larger teams.
A meeting with the various technical heads is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, just before the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. Some rules already take months and months to be implemented, so it is high time for F1 to seriously address the issue.
