The two McLarens score points in Budapest

Fernando Alonso was very attached to Jules Bianchi, whom he considered like a little brother. The minute of silence before the start of the race in honor of the Frenchman affected him greatly: « This has not been an easy weekend for Formula 1. The minute of silence for Jules before the race was very moving and it was very hard to go directly into the cockpit. But today we respected Jules. »

But once the visor was down, the Spanish driver regained all his fighting spirit and managed to climb from 15th place on the grid to finish 5th, just ahead of Lewis Hamilton: « It was a very good race and the final 5th place is a nice gift for the whole team, especially since we are not competitive at the moment. On the calendar, there are several races where we expected to be better: Monaco, Singapore, and here in Hungary. So we knew we had to do our best here. That’s what we did: it was a chaotic race and we took advantage of all the opportunities that came our way. »

Jenson Button also made a great comeback as he moved from 16th to 8th position. But his end of race was difficult due to his worn tires: « Fernando did a great job today. Putting on the soft tires for the last stint was the right decision for him. I didn’t stop to change tires during the safety car while everyone else did. This decision made my life much more complicated because my worn medium tires were quite old at the end of the race. There were a lot of faster cars than me that had soft tires. »
