Williams did not maximize their qualifying performance in Austria
The two Williams drivers expressed a certain disappointment after the qualifying in Austria as they finished 4th and 6th.
Author of the pole position last year, Felipe Massa hoped once again to take advantage of the power of his Mercedes engine to repeat such a performance. But it was not to be, as he couldn’t do better than the 4th fastest time. While the incident with the Mercedes in the final test obviously slowed him down, he admits he wouldn’t necessarily have ranked better without it: « My best lap could have been faster. I made a mistake and the tires could have been quicker on our last attempt and we would have had less fuel. That doesn’t mean we would have finished better than 5th and these kinds of things happen in qualifying. »
Regarding his teammate, Valtteri Bottas, he expressed disappointment at seeing Nico Hülkenberg rank ahead of him: « *6th isn’t entirely representative of the car’s pace, especially since there’s only one Ferrari ahead of us. We suffered a lot from the yellow flags. So I am a bit disappointed with our grid position for tomorrow.* »
The two drivers therefore hope to hold their own by getting involved in the fight with Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari, or even with the Mercedes. In any case, they will try not to let Kimi Räikkönen pass them again as he starts from the middle of the grid.
