Daniil Kvyat and Red Bull couldn’t do better than 9th in Canada
One year after their victory, Red Bull was not celebrating at the Montreal circuit: Daniil Kvyat brought in the two points for 9th place, but Daniel Ricciardo finished in a distant 13th place.
For Daniel Ricciardo, the Gilles Villeneuve circuit will always be the setting of his first victory. Nevertheless, the 2015 edition of the Canadian Grand Prix will not be remembered by him, as he was never in the rhythm and finished out of the points: « It was a strange weekend and I’m perplexed about today’s race. I was lacking pace and we don’t know why. There wasn’t anything wrong but we just couldn’t get performance out of the car. I had some different settings compared to Dany but that doesn’t explain the difference in pace. »
If the Russian managed to get ahead of the Australian, he still didn’t feel he could do better than 9th, as the Ile Notre Dame circuit clearly favors the engine power of the Mercedes over the Renault, which he didn’t fail to point out: «It was a difficult race because the Mercedes-powered cars had a clear advantage over us, but we managed to keep two of them behind us, which is the best we could do. Two points in the championship is the best we could achieve. The team did a good job, but obviously, we need to improve in many areas, including the engine. »
Thierry Salvi, the representative of the Losange at Red Bull, commented: « Now that reliability is under control, we will be able to focus 100% on performance. We hope to run the updated engine as soon as possible to take advantage of it before the end of the year. »
