Barcelona Tests II – Day 2 (morning): Felipe Nasr leads at the break
The second day of the week began this morning under mild weather. The morning was marked by the off-track excursion of the new Force India VJM08, as well as the intense activity of the single-seaters on the track.
It was sunny but cool this morning. Like yesterday, air temperatures do not exceed 12°C: it’s not ideal for testing, knowing that the average air temperature will be 20°C during the races. Under these conditions, and with his limited mileage in F1, it’s Felipe Nasr, in the Sauber, who records the fastest time of the morning.
The Brazilian driver overtakes in the last hour with soft tires, leaving behind Rosberg’s Mercedes which is on medium (less efficient) tires. Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari is in 3rd place.
The session was not interrupted by any red flags. Good news that allowed the drivers to successfully complete their testing programs. Five of them drove more than 50 laps this morning. Max Verstappen even completed 78 laps of the Barcelona track at the wheel of the Toro Rosso.
Previously unreliable, the McLaren Honda was able to take part in the morning by completing 44 laps. A real leap forward for McLaren, which had only completed 7 laps yesterday.
Finally, it’s worth noting the debut of the Force India VJM08, the latest from the Indian team that couldn’t hit the track yesterday. At the wheel, Nico Hülkenberg completed 5 laps: mainly system check tests.
