Sébastien Buemi continues with Red Bull
Red Bull will still have a world champion in 2015 as Sébastien Buemi, crowned in endurance racing with Toyota, will continue to be the third driver for the Milton Keynes team.
If Sébastien Buemi must be content with staying in the pits and in the simulator with Red Bull, he still has a busy competitive schedule: this year, he completed the entire endurance championship, where he was crowned world champion with Toyota. Similarly, he is participating in the new Formula E championship, where he won the most recent race.
However, he does not want to leave the F1 paddocks permanently. An agreement has been reached with Red Bull to keep his position as a third driver for a fourth consecutive season. Christian Horner, the team director, stated: « We are delighted that Sébastien continues to be our reserve driver. He has been very involved with the team for a few years already. His skills are very valuable to us, and we have a very good working relationship with him. His experience has been invaluable over the years, and it’s a great thing to have another world champion in the team. »
It is interesting to note that the Swiss pilot’s experience and skills are so well appreciated by the team, even though they have always refused to promote him to the main team after two seasons at Toro Rosso. The driver can find consolation in being the only driver rejected by the junior team who managed to keep a foot in F1 within the Red Bull galaxy. Others, like Jaime Alguersuari, were not so lucky…
