Record sales in Abu Dhabi
As the title is now certain to be awarded in Abu Dhabi, the Emirati circuit is recording record sales. The race is expected to once again be held at full capacity, despite increased capacity.
This year, Bernie Ecclestone gave a nice gift to the Yas Marina Circuit, both by granting it the final race of the season and by doubling the value of the points awarded.
The intended effect was to increase the chances of the world title being decided on this circuit, whose financial contribution is one of the most significant of the season. The objective is therefore achieved, as we now know that Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg can only be crowned at the end of the Emirati race.
This can only boost ticket sales, which are the only financial resource left for the various circuits. Thus, the organizers had anticipated facing increased demand and had therefore decided to increase the total capacity of the circuit by 5,000 seats, reaching 60,000 seats.
It is highly likely that they will all find takers, as Al Tarez Al Ameri, the CEO of the circuit, explains to Gulf News: « This year, the appetite for F1 is unprecedented. As we approach the race weekend, less than 10% of the seats remain available, even with our additional 5,000 tickets for 2014. With the drivers’ championship being decided at Yas Marina and the incredible entertainment program we have put together, it won’t take long for us to sell everything out. »
Indeed, besides the Grand Prix, Abu Dhabi has decided to multiply the artists for the concerts held after the race. DJ Armin van Buuren, Pharrell Williams, and the rock band The Who will be present. This strategy thus helps to attract fans of both F1 and music.
