Button: McLaren F1 less competitive than in Sochi

After two good consecutive results in Japan and Russia with a fifth and a fourth place respectively, the 2009 world champion will have to face a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change in Austin.

However, Jenson Button is not too bitter because he thinks the recent strong performances will be difficult to replicate in the United States. Indeed, he explains to Crash.net: « In Japan, we found a good direction that we exploited up to Sochi, but I don’t think we will be as competitive here and I don’t believe fourth place is possible. I think [we can score] good points even if it’s more difficult for me with this five-place grid penalty. »

During Friday’s tests, the Englishman was able to test new parts with a view to the development of next year’s car. However, he does not wish to project himself so far as to know if he will be part of the McLaren-Honda adventure and prefers to enjoy these special moments of automotive competition.

He shows a certain philosophy: « I don’t really care, I’m just here to race, I enjoy it without wondering if it’s good or bad. I just appreciate doing what I do best, which is driving an F1. »
