Saturday: Kvyat shines in Sochi, Vergne surprisingly slow for Toro Rosso
Daniil Kvyat records the best qualifying result of his career in front of his home crowd. On his side, Jean-Eric Vergne is far behind, his car suffering from an unidentified problem.
Daniil Kvyat (No. 26) – 6th and 5th
The local hero secures a promising 5th place for the race: « It’s an amazing feeling to be fifth in today’s qualifying here in my home country. It was already quite promising yesterday, so I’m very happy that we managed to put everything together to achieve my best qualifying result today. The car felt great and everything worked well, so congratulations to the team. »
Jean-Eric Vergne (#25) – 9th and 10th [9th on the grid]
The Frenchman complained of a lack of pace today: « I was extremely slow today and I don’t know why. I lost time everywhere around the circuit and I wonder if there was a problem somewhere that didn’t allow me to extract the maximum from the car. We are going to look at all the data to try to understand what happened and I will be faster again tomorrow. »
