Saturday: Alonso only two tenths from the Mercedes in Singapore

Fernando Alonso (#14) – 1st and 5th

Author of a time just two-tenths off Lewis Hamilton’s pole position, the Spaniard was the first to be surprised by the performance of his F1. He states: « This weekend, I felt comfortable from the first session, and that is probably largely due to the characteristics of this track. It’s impossible to compare it with other races because this one and Monaco are unique. But definitely, we have taken a step forward since the beginning of this season, and I’m sure the car will continue to improve until the end. Tomorrow’s race will be long and very demanding from a mechanical standpoint. Reliability will play a key role, as will tire management, which could make a big difference. »

Kimi Räikkönen (No. 7) – 9th and 7th

In a more subdued style than his Latin teammate, Iceman expresses his satisfaction with the improvement in the behavior of his F1: « I am very happy with the handling of my car. Yesterday, we made a few changes in the setup and in qualifying, I finally managed to drive as I wanted. Unfortunately, in Q3, during my last stint on super-softs, a problem forced me to return to the pits. It’s really a shame because I felt comfortable in the car and we had the potential to achieve a good result. Now I want to feel confident for the race and I hope the team can solve the problem without too much difficulty. Tomorrow, we will do our best to bring home as many points as possible, knowing that we are going in the right direction. »
