Saturday: The Red Bulls of Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel just behind the Mercedes

Daniel Ricciardo (No. 3) – 2nd and 3rd

Red Bull’s predictions turned out to be even better than expected during the Singapore qualifying: « Before arriving for this weekend, we thought that if we could be two or three tenths off Mercedes, we would have a good chance of staying with them in the race. We actually ended up closer to them than we thought. So that’s a good thing. »

The Australian therefore knows that his best chance is at the start. As he knows he has nothing to lose, he will try something: « If the start goes well, we will try to be smart and attempt something with the strategy. If I can get closer, I will try. I haven’t been afraid to do it this year, but it’s difficult to do on a street circuit. »

He hopes to at least get back on the podium tomorrow to greet the many Australian fans who have traveled to the city-state.

Sebastian Vettel (No. 1) – 3rd and 4th

The four-time world champion is not satisfied with his last lap because he over-drove, causing him to lose a pole he thought was achievable on the streets of Singapore: « I am not happy with my last lap. I pushed a little too hard and couldn’t put it all together. So, I am not completely satisfied, but that’s how it is now. I think the pole was achievable. »

If he is confident before the race, he knows that many cars have the same pace, which will make overtaking difficult: « We hope for a good race tomorrow, with good pit stops and a good strategy. We will see what we can do. I think we have good speed but everyone seems to have good speed here. It’s a long race. So we will see how the tires perform. »
