Friday: Mercedes at the top, Hamilton in good spirits, Rosberg worried
As Rosberg worries about the pace of Mercedes' competitors, Hamilton feels very comfortable in his F1. However, Mercedes recorded the two fastest times during the practice sessions.
Nico Rosberg (No. 6) – 3rd and 1st
After a not completely satisfactory day, the German driver is concerned about the pace of his competitors: « Apparently, we are fast on one lap but on the long runs, the others were very fast. I didn’t feel 100% confident in the car. I can’t be happy today and I have a lot of work to do tonight with the guys. »
But he is delighted to return to a circuit that has made the legend of the whole: « It’s really great to be back on such a traditional track here at Monza with all the history. It’s very special for me to be here in this fast Silver Arrow. The fans are very enthusiastic as usual and also very kind to us. I’m looking forward to the weekend. »
Lewis Hamilton (No. 44) – 1st and 2nd
The English driver felt really good in his car in the morning. In the early afternoon, he missed an hour of practice but has a very positive assessment of his Friday: « We made some changes during lunchtime and then during the session, and although I didn’t do many laps, the car gives me excellent sensations. With a bit of luck, I could do the full session tomorrow and have a good run. In Monza, it’s very important to have the car in front as it’s very difficult to overtake here. It would be nice to have a problem-free qualifying session tomorrow afternoon. »
