Saturday: Toro Rosso fails in Q2, Vergne and Kvyat aim for points
Even if the small Scuderia stopped in Q2 due to exhaust problems for Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniil Kvyat narrowly missing Q3, a good race pace could allow them to bring back a few points.
Jean-Eric Vergne (No. 25) – 10th and 12th
The Frenchman could hope to place in the top 10, but unfortunately for him, his bad luck followed him again as he recounts: « Q1 went well but then we encountered an issue with the exhaust system, which compromised my Q2, I was only able to do three laps and the timing wasn’t optimal. It’s a shame because we had the car to make it to Q3 today. »
However, he hopes for a good Sunday: « Nevertheless, we saw throughout the weekend that we had the pace to do well, the long stints seem quite good. Considering that tomorrow the race should take place in dry conditions, starting in P12 isn’t too bad, since anything is possible. »
Daniil Kvyat (No. 26) – 7th and 11th
A bit in difficulty with his F1, the young Russian somewhat corrected course although he ultimately fails in Q2.
He declares: « It was a difficult qualifying session, and before my last stint, I wasn’t very happy with the car’s handling. But we changed a few small things, and in the end, it was much more comfortable. I would say my last stint in Q2 was quite representative, even though I think we could have been faster in the dry. Tomorrow, the situation will be different, as the race is very long and anything can happen. We will push hard, and with a bit of luck, we can score some points. »
