Friday: McLaren well positioned, Button ahead of Magnussen

Jenson Button (No. 22) – 4th and 5th

The veteran is reasonably happy with the balance of his F1, even though he thinks there’s room for improvement with medium tires.

Then he mentions the passage of Eau Rouge with the new regulations: « With our low aerodynamic downforce setup, it’s… uh… interesting. You experience oversteer at over 300 km/h, and I admit to having let out a few screams inside my helmet at that spot on two or three occasions, especially with a lot of fuel. But it’s a track where you always get scares – and, as always at Spa, it’s a great experience and I’m looking forward to the next two days. »

Kevin Magnussen (No. 20) – 7th and 9th

Like most of his colleagues, the Danish rookie is happy to return to Spa, where he is driving a Formula 1 car for the first time on a fantastic track. He is satisfied with the balance of his car, even though he can still fine-tune his settings.

He expresses his wishes for the rest of the weekend: « Personally, I hope it will be dry tomorrow because that would give us continuity in development – and it’s always more fun to drive at Spa on a dry track. »
