Friday: Bottas and Massa are optimistic for Williams
The two drivers of the Grove team have fine-tuned their F1 cars on the demanding Spa-Francorchamps circuit. They will aim for a good position during the qualifiers and then in the race.
Valtteri Bottas (No. 77) – 10th and 6th
After numerous adjustments, the new Flying Finn’s car seems well-balanced to him, and he believes he can achieve a good result in the race.
He explains: « Today, we did a lot of setup tests with some good results and our goal will be a good result in qualifying and in the race because this circuit suits our car well. From the start, the balance of the car is good and we have managed to improve it over the various sessions, but I think we can still unlock performance by Sunday. I didn’t have a particularly good lap on softs, but the time I set was still competitive, so that’s encouraging. »
Felipe Massa (No. 19) – 15th and 4th
The Paulist believes that Mercedes will once again be difficult to dislodge, but that his team can fight for the podium on Sunday.
The Williams F1 driver stated: « This Friday went well for us without any issues, and we were able to continue understanding the car. We experienced some tire degradation, so strategy will be crucial, and it will be important to choose the right tires at the right time during the race. Mercedes still appears very strong and seems to have an advantage over everyone else, but we should have a good chance to fight for the podium, and we just need to keep working on improving the car throughout the weekend. »
