Caterham F1 should get a makeover
Much debated since the start of the season, the "double nose" of the Caterham team might undergo a major cosmetic surgery before the Belgian Grand Prix. The redesign of the CT05 could go even further and resemble a true metamorphosis.
The recent arrival of an Arab-Swiss consortium as the buyer of the Malaysian team has led to the appointment of Christijan Albers as director.
The latter is the bearer of a new strategic direction for the team, which now involves accelerating the development of the single-seater with the “unsightly” nose in order to finish ahead of long-time rival Marussia, with the aim of securing the 20 million dollars allocated to the tenth-placed constructor in the championship.
The famous appendix could be the first most spectacular measure going in this direction. That’s what the site Speedweek claims. On its side, the Italian magazine Omnicorse specifies that the new nose in question could resemble that of the Williams. Asked about it, the new director of Caterham cryptically states: « We will see at Spa-Francorchamps. »
According to the same source, the developments of the CT05 would involve a new floor, modification of the sidepods, new front and rear wings, and finally a reduction in the vehicle’s weight.
