Friday: Ricciardo sliding, Vettel the best of the rest for Red Bull
In the absence of FRIC and on a circuit that seems more suited to the RB10 chassis, Sebastian Vettel achieved an impressive third fastest time during FP2 of the Hungarian F1 Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo struggled to find grip but believes he can solve this issue by doing his homework on Friday night.
Sebastian Vettel (No. 1) – 5th and 3rd
After a rather positive day, the German world champion believes it is possible to do better tomorrow. However, he is wary of the varying pace of the competitors, especially Williams who has been very fast in qualifying for a few Grand Prix now.
He states: « I think we might be a bit closer this weekend, at least today it looked a bit better, but again we have seen that some teams can make a big step from Friday to Saturday, Williams in particular, so we have to be cautious. I hope we can make enough progress to maintain today’s pace and be able to use a little more power, but we’ll have to wait and see where we are. »
Daniel Ricciardo (No. 3) – 8th and 7th
The smiling wallaby had some difficulty finding traction on the Hungarian turnstile, but believes that by thoroughly analyzing the data, there is room for improvement.
He also thinks the track will improve over the weekend: « To be honest, we struggled a bit to find grip today. This track really tends to ramp up a lot over the weekend, during the morning session, grip was really low for everyone and we saw a lot of people sliding. We thought we would find more this afternoon but we didn’t progress as much as the track, so we have a bit of work to do tonight to understand that, but that’s the whole point of Friday, to learn, you try things and hopefully you put everything together well on Friday night for qualifying. »
