Saturday: Sauber F1 Unlucky but Making Progress
In the absence of FRIC, Sauber is making progress and could almost have made it to Q3 of the German Grand Prix qualifying. Esteban Gutierrez, in 14th, will only start 17th due to his penalty at Silverstone. Adrian Sutil couldn't prepare sufficiently due to a problem in FP3 and stops in Q1.
Adrian Sutil (No. 99) – 19th and 17th [16th on the grid]
The German considers himself unlucky to have encountered technical problems in the morning, which prevented him from preparing as he wanted for qualifying with the possibility of reaching a potential Q3: « Because of the time lost this morning, we couldn’t hope for better. However, we did our best during qualifying. We were also unlucky with the red flags while I was on a good lap. »
Esteban Gutiérrez (No. 21) – 15th and 14th [17th on the grid]
At the cost of a lot of hard work by the whole team, the Mexican finishes in 14th place even though he lost a few tenths in Q2. He states: “Considering the speed we were lacking yesterday, we made a good step forward today. The race will be interesting since it is a challenge to keep the tires alive. As everyone is working very hard in the team, the results should come soon.”
