Saturday: Riccardo and Vettel did their best for Red Bull
The Red Bull drivers got the most out of the car they had: Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel don't think they could have done better than their 5th and 6th places.
Daniel Ricciardo (no. 3) – 7th and 5th
Once again, the Australian outpaces his prestigious teammate during the qualifying exercise. However, he believes he couldn’t have done much better: “It wasn’t too bad a day for me. We would like to be higher than 5th, but the lap I did was pretty good. I improved between Q2 and Q3. So I can’t complain about my lap, but as a team, we are still a bit far off.”
However, he believes that a third place on the podium is achievable: « We know that the Mercedes are strong, but the Williams still have a good pace and the McLaren with Kevin has been good. We must continue to work, but we’ve done what we can. I think the race will be tight between the top eight and it will be a big battle for the last spot on the podium. »
Sebastian Vettel (No.1) – 9th and 6th
In the statements of the German driver, he seems somewhat disillusioned with his current performance: « It was a bit difficult today and I didn’t succeed in my last stint. Apart from that, it was a good session. I was more pleased with the car this afternoon than this morning. So that’s positive. We’re not sure about the weather for tomorrow: we are in a good position to do well. »
