Friday: At Mercedes, Hamilton and Rosberg stay afloat with new settings
The word MONEY is on everyone's lips this weekend. Mercedes has made adjustments to adapt in the absence of this system. Even if Red Bull was close during free practice, only the qualifying session will truly reveal any possible changes in the hierarchy.
Lewis Hamilton (No. 44) – 2nd and 1st
The day was good for the Englishman despite some difficulties in finding the car’s balance in scorching conditions and on a challenging track.
The Tiger Woods of F1 shares his impressions at the wheel without the MONEY: « The car is a bit different now since everyone has made setup changes in a new direction compared to what we had before, but it’s still a pleasure to drive. »
He then shares his vision of the weekend in Baden-Württemberg: « As the temperatures were so high, it was tough on the tires and we will have to manage that carefully when we are racing. The weather is beautiful and the heat was a challenge, especially in the car, but that’s what I love. We need to analyze everything we can tonight and drink a lot because it’s going to be hot. »
Nico Rosberg (No. 6) – 1st and 2nd
For the local racer, it was a tough day with all the testing to be done on a car without the FRIC system. But he concludes: « It went quite well even in these difficult conditions. It was very hot outside and the soft tires don’t last long here, so it will be tricky for the race. »
In FP2, the Monegasque resident found himself in a rather delicate situation with a smoking car. He explains: « We had a small incident in the pit lane when my teammate suddenly came in just before I was asked to come in as well. But the guys reacted quickly to cool down my car and bring out its tires. »
