No tolerance for wide corner exits at Silverstone
The commissioners reminded before the qualifying sessions that they would cancel all lap times of drivers who go wide during qualifying and the race.
Two weeks after Austria, the threat remains the same: the FIA does not want to see drivers going off the track beyond the four wheels at the exits of turns 9 and 18, as it could provide them with a clear advantage over their competitors. Therefore, they have issued a warning that any infraction will result in the lap time not being counted during this afternoon’s qualifying session.
This threat also applies to the race. Thus, if a driver were to repeatedly exceed the track limits or if it was clear they gained an advantage (such as an overtaking maneuver or a time gain to defend), the incident would be reported to the race stewards. A penalty could then be imposed.
