British GP: Rosberg and Ricciardo escape penalty
Rosberg and Ricciardo escaped penalty for overtaking under a red flag during FP1 of the British Grand Prix F1. Our special correspondent informs us that the stewards decided not to penalize the two drivers.
After being placed under investigation for exceeding limits under a red flag, Nico Rosberg and Daniel Ricciardo will ultimately not be penalized.
Rosberg had overtaken Daniil Kvyat, Ricciardo had overtaken Fernando Alonso after Felipe Massa’s accident which caused a red flag. The stewards heard the drivers’ arguments who were able to prove that they had no choice but to overtake the other cars.
One of the last penalties for overtaking under a red flag dates back to the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix.
Charles Pic was then given a 20-second penalty added to his race time. In addition, the Frenchman was required to participate in the FIA’s road safety program. The severity of Charles Pic’s penalty was partly due to the fact that he ran four red lights before overtaking.
This was also the case at the 2013 United States Grand Prix. Jenson Button received a 3-place grid penalty.
