Daniel Juncadella will make his F1 debut at the British GP
Daniel Juncadella, a Spanish driver, will make his first laps on Friday morning for Sahara Force India during the Free Practice of the Silverstone Grand Prix.
After an unremarkable start in karting in 2004, this young driver born in Barcelona truly began his career in motorsport in 2007. His first season in Master Junior Formula resulted in a second place in the championship and seven victories, indicating a genuine desire to succeed in motorsport.
After going through Formula BMW Europe and securing a fourth place in the championship, the young driver tries his hand at several formulas: Formula 3 in Great Britain and Formula 3 Euro Series.
In 2011, the Barcelona native won the Macau GP and finished third in both championships in which he was competing, the F3 Euro Series and the FIA International F3 Trophy.
In 2012, the driver achieved victory at the legendary Formula 3 Masters in Zandvoort, also securing pole position, and went on to become the champion of the F3 Euro Series and first in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship.
Despite his young age, the driver already holds 31 fastest laps, 15 pole positions, 66 podiums, and 26 victories in multiple championships.
The 23-year-old Spaniard will take the wheel of Nico Hülkenberg’s VJM07 for the Friday morning session, and the Barcelona driver shares his thoughts: “I am thrilled and ready, and I want to thank Sahara Force India for this opportunity,” he states on the team’s official website. He adds: “This is the first time I will take part in an official session for a Grand Prix weekend, it’s set to be a special day for me. I have been waiting for this moment for a very long time and it shows that work and determination can pay off.”
The current DTM driver reflects on the work done since the beginning of this year. « After my first chance to drive in Jerez, I worked hard with the team and learned a lot; all the hours in the simulator gave me a lot of confidence. It was a good way to get to know the team, which is essential. All these efforts make this day very special. », concludes Daniel Juncadella.
