Friday: The Sauber is not performing well in Austria
Even though Esteban Gutiérrez and Adrian Sutil are quite satisfied with their day, they know that there is still work to be done to improve the C33 at the Red Bull Ring. Both men also expect to benefit from the better track conditions forecasted for the rest of the weekend.
Esteban Gutiérrez (No. 21) – 14th and 14th
The Mexican expressed satisfaction with his first day, even though not everything was straightforward since the Sauber C33 is not yet perfect on the Red Bull Ring: « We had a good day. We used the track time effectively and managed to complete the entire scheduled program. From this perspective, the sessions went well, although we still need to work on the consistency of our lap times. The car’s handling is also a factor, which is important on long stints. It’s our current priority. »
Adrian Sutil (No. 99) – 19th and 16th
The German experienced a more complicated day, encountering a technical problem during FP1, but even though the behavior of his car is not yet perfect, he remains optimistic for the future: « I was able to take part in FP2 without any problems. This morning, I lost a bit of track time due to a technical issue. However, I am satisfied with our day’s program. As the track is very slippery, the car is unstable and difficult to drive. With higher temperatures expected tomorrow, I should have better feelings as the grip level will be higher. »
