Kvyat: The Red Bull Ring is “my kind of track!”
Victorious in the past on the Spielberg track, Daniil Kvyat is happy to return to Styria. He believes that this type of track suits him perfectly.
Next weekend, the grand circus of Formula 1 returns to the Red Bull Ring, formerly known as the A1 Ring, for the first time since the 2003 season. For the record, the race was won by Michael Schumacher driving his Ferrari.
While for some of his more experienced peers it will be a discovery, for Daniil Kvyat it will be an opportunity to return to the site of his past successes. Despite his young age, the Russian from Ufa in Bashkiria has already tasted glory on the circuit owned by Red Bull.
That’s why he’s excited to go back as he confides to Crash.net: « It’s one of my favorite circuits. » He adds: « I raced there in Formula Renault ALPS and won two races here in 2012. I had a great weekend and really loved the track. Last year, I returned in F3 and had more wonderful memories, securing three poles out of three, followed by three second places in the races. »
The rookie from the cold especially appreciates the nature of the alpine track: « It’s my type of circuit! It’s a fairly technical track with heavy braking and some medium and high-speed corners that I particularly enjoy, so with a bit of luck, the STR9 will behave well there. You have to find the right balance since there are relatively long straights, but it’s mainly in the fast corners where you gain the most time. »
However, despite his previous successes and despite the fact that the Red Bull is playing at home, Kvyat knows full well that nothing is ever guaranteed: « It will be a great weekend for the Red Bull family, but I will focus on the usual work to make the right choice and find the right setup in the three free practice sessions, have the right approach, and see how it works. »
The Austrian Grand Prix can be followed on Motors Inside starting on Friday.
